Mary in Greensburg, Pennsylvania

Mary in Greensburg, Pennsylvania

At the tail end of a monstrous thunderstorm, seeking some shelter, even though I was soaking wet anyway, I met Mary at the Wendy’s just west of Greensburg. She was there with her daughter and grandson. We talked about the Walk and about healthcare reform.

Mary shared with me the story of her son, Jim. “He works in a plant nursery. He’s got no insurance but suffers from sympathetic dystrophy, you know what that is, right?”

“Yes,” I replied.

“He’s self-pay but basically he just suffers in pain. It breaks my heart,”
